"You Better Look Down Before You Sit Down"

So tonight while we we're walking back to our car after looking at a terrace apartment Ethne was quietly singing to herself. Garrett happened to be holding her hand and could hear what she was singing and he started giggling while he put her in the car.
When he got in he told me what Ethne was singing to herself. She was singing "you better look down, you better look down, you better look down, there might be a maniac under your bottom" LOL, we were cracking up! She was mixing two songs her dad has been singing to her. One that he made up and the other was "Maniac" by Michael Simbello which I asked him not to sing to her. I don't like her singing about maniacs but it's too late. She picked it up the first time and as you can see she is incorporating it into other songs as well :)

The first song has a history as well as a catchy tune. When Enoch was almost three and just out of diapers he would sit down on hard toys and other things around the house and come to us crying that he hurt his bottom. He often tumbled over them rather than just sitting on them and since he didn't have a diaper any longer it hurt more than normal. Because it happened so often Garrett wrote a little song called "you bettere look down before you sit down" and it goes like this-
"you better look down before you sit down. It would be rotten to hurt your bottom".

The purpose of the song was two fold. One to make Enoch laugh and feel better and two to teach Enoch to look what he was doing so he didn't keep getting hurt. It worked and it has been sung a lot around our house as a joke over the years.

Ethne's version was really funny and now unfortunately the boys are singing it too.
